St Joseph’s School has strong traditions, a happy legacy left to us by the Good Samaritan Sisters who founded it in 1914. Since 1988 St Joseph’s has been staffed entirely by lay teachers but the charism of the Sisters remains. Fr Kooloos and the present Staff are committed to work at providing St Joseph’s Parish with a distinctive school where the atmosphere is enlivened by a spirit of freedom and charity.

St Joe’s offers a fully comprehensive curriculum. The children are exposed to a variety of educational opportunities and exciting moments, which aim to inspire a love of learning. Whilst Literacy and Numeracy remain the core focus of the children’s work, our integrated program includes Italian, an Artist in Residence and Music lessons offered by a teacher from the well known Aussie band, Men at Work.

As part of its peaceful environment, the staff at St Joe’s present their children with a set of habits which build healthy relationships. They work hard to create an atmosphere of safety and acceptance - an environment where children are free to learn, secure in the knowledge that they belong.

In short, the St Joseph’s School environment is pro-social, where:

  • everyone is considered important

  • put-downs are completely unacceptable

  • social and academic risk taking is encouraged

  • active caring is encouraged

  • emphasis is placed on discussions

  • individual differences are appreciated and celebrated

  • the necessity for getting along, persistence, organization, confidence and resilience are emphasised, and

  • children, teachers and parents can practise respect and express opinions

St Joe’s Seven Key Habits:  listening, supporting, encouraging, contributing, negotiating, trusting and befriending are indeed skills for life!

If you want to know more about our school and the work we do, do not hesitate to contact me. Better yet, call in, have a cuppa and see for yourself.

Kind regards, Greg Synan.
